We were never looking for horses. NEVER!!! They were too much work, too much money, too much time, you would never be
able to go anywhere without having a slew of volunteers to help take care of them. Just a real pain if you think about it. Then we
met Willie. What a sad excuse for a horse. I used to have horses and I never saw one get to this point. I was never familiar with
horse rescues, didn't even know people did this. Just thought that some kind soul somewhere made sure that all horses were taken
care of. After all, why wouldn't they be. They are such majestic animals, proud, happy, wanting to please their humans. Willie really
brought truth to this misconception. All people don't love horses. Some people just see them for the work they do, the ribbons they
can win for them or the money they can earn. When they don't fulfill these needs, they are sometimes abandoned to their own devices
to fend for themselves. In Willie's case, work them for all you can. Willie had a cool even in his emaciated state. Could steal
your heart with those big brown, cloudy eyes. Yes, they were quite cloudy at that time. When the woman that owned him at the time
took him out of the pasture to meet us, we connected immediately. He seemed to sense that we were his refuge, even before we knew
it. I didn't think he'd be with us much longer, so I agreed to make his final days more bearable. Hey, we can feed him. He looks like
he needs some food!! But, I had a feeling that if he did make it, I was going to be seeing him a lot more than I had planned. Did
I mention that I DID NOT WANT HORSES!!! Well, my husband, being the old softie that he is, soon had him adopted, moved to a better
facility and was mucking and feeding to pay his board. Willie began to blossom under his care. Every day you could see his eyes beginning
to clear and his attitude getting even brighter (it was always great). He truly loved Greg and Greg him. And so our adventure of rescuing
horses began. I have attached 2 photos of Willie in the very beginning. I can't even believe it's the same horse only 1.5 years later.
He was moved 2 more times after that first time and is now living at Bit O'Luck facility (where he will always be) and is truly happy.
We got the 2nd horse because Will was starting to get too attached to Greg and acting very human. We thought he might need a buddy.
Enter Quinn......love at first sight!!! She was a broodmare for a time and it took some time to get her used to her new place. But
she always loved Willie!! Now the rescue was born. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!!!! But, there's something about horses. Even if you're
in the worst mood, just being around them can brighten it. They show you a lot about yourself. Good or bad!!! And they love you in
spite of yourself, as long as you're feeding them, and grooming them.
Then came Fight Talk....thoroughbred!! Spunky and sweet. She
loves Willie, too!!! He is truly irresistible!! So here we are...3 horses. Even picked up 2 puppies along the way. No goats yet, but
I'm sure one will pop up, and Greg won't turn anything away. We will need to move to a larger facility if we want to pick up any more
horses, but for now, we are pretty content. Can still help more in other ways. RESCUE!! Now I need someone to rescue me...oh, I think
Willie did that!!!
